The new 106 Custom Line is the second yacht of the planing range we were charged to restyle. The range started with the Custom Line 120.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our firm was charged of the whole design and worked at interiors in cooperation with Margherita Casprini. The collaboration with the Ferretti Group Strategic Product Committee and Engineering Department was essential to help us to face the big challenge of combining the new elements we were asked to introduce with the successful design, functionality and technical issues the brand is renowned for. While restyling the range, continuity was important so that some distinctive characteristics of the successful previous range were enhanced and combined with new design recurring motifs. The whole design was focused on enhancing the contact with the sea and attempting to overthrow boundaries between exterior and interior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moreover and worth mentioning, the new technical solutions and the overall new exterior look are closely connected to each other as different parts of a one-piece architectural mosaic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stylistic cues from other industries were incorporated. They include the automotive sector and residential architecture adding thorough research to bring out shapes and volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We wanted to make the profile appear sleeker and powerful. We did so by creating one long window on the main and lower deck. The strong lines run from bow to stern, giving life to the scene of curves and carved-out sections, soft and sporty lines, alternating materials and colours of structural materials and dark-tinted windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As far as interior design is concerned, the brief was for a homey and elegant interior. Following the key feature of the whole design, i.e. overthrowing boundaries between exterior and interior, the interior is open to the outside. Decoration choices are in line with the most up-to-date lifestyle. Inspired by the luxury residential furnishing designs, the columns covered in leather in the living include the lighting, audio and air conditioning systems. The choice was for just a few materials to aim at a sophisticated and elegant result. A balanced combination of parquet wood, polished lacquered panels and marble feature the interior focused on the combination of dark and light colours with a contemporary touch. Most of the furniture is from Italian companies such as Minotti and Flexform along with custom-made pieces such as the dining table with a bronze back-painted glass top and black lacquered metal structure and the bedside tables in the master\u2019s, while leather and metal finishes were used for the details. We focused on colours and the finishing of materials we used. The combination of different colours is an important part of the design on board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An important innovation is the elevation of the superstructure floor which enhances the panorama. The location of equipment under the main deck floor results in a raised living with convex large and wide windows running from floor to ceiling which transform the living into a panoramic terrace with unparalleled view. The slightly curved side windows enhance the feeling of a closer contact with the sea. Instead of gunwales, sturdy railings, similar to those on sailing yachts, are all along the side decks and vanish as soon as the eyes focus on the water beyond them. We also like the owner\u2019s suite forward on the main deck which features a fold-out balcony on the starboard side as the owner asked for. Particular attention was also given to the size of alfresco areas, a design feature of Custom Line, which are here all interconnected and can be sheltered by bimini tops or canopies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We were honoured to get a WSA also for this boat this year. She was a perfect team work among all the people involved \u2013 shipyard, owner and our studio.
